Hydrolix Query Assistant is an AI-based assistant that is part of the Grafana plugin. It simplifies querying and visualization of Hydrolix data in Grafana.
Using natural language interaction, it can explain SQL queries used by dashboard panels, line by line.
Feature roadmap⚓︎
Additional features are in development and coming soon. The Assistant will:
- Explain SQL errors in the query editor and suggest fixes.
- Modify an existing query in the query editor.
- Generate a new query.
Requirements⚓︎
The following requirements are necessary for successful setup.
Dependencies⚓︎
- Hydrolix Grafana plugin: version 0.8.0
- Hydrolix cluster: v5.7 or later
User permissions⚓︎
The Assistant operates with the user's existing Grafana permissions.
Set up the Hydrolix Query Assistant⚓︎
Users need to contact Hydrolix Support to enable the Hydrolix Query Assistant for their account.
After the Hydrolix Query Assistant is enabled in Grafana, open the panel editor for a dashboard panel to access the Assistant.
Access the Hydrolix Query Assistant⚓︎
The Assistant focuses on the query chosen in the panel editor. See Panel editor for more information.
- Log in to Grafana and select a dashboard.
- Select More options (⋮) at the top right corner of a panel.
- Select Edit from the drop-down list to open the panel editor.
- Click Ask Hydrolix Assistant (sparkles icon) to open the Assistant in a pop-up.

Select a predefined option, or type a question directly into the field.

Considerations⚓︎
- If you try to use a feature the Assistant doesn’t support, a message tells you it’s unavailable.
- The Hydrolix Query Assistant keeps your session while you stay in the edit panel. If you leave the panel, you can reopen the Assistant and continue where you left off.
- To start a new session, click the trash can icon in the upper-right corner of the Assistant panel.
- During the beta, each company gets a shared pool of token credits. If you reach the limit, the Assistant will display a
budget_exceedederror. Contact your Hydrolix representative for more credits.
