AWS CloudFront

Overview

AWS CloudFront is a content delivery network (CDN) service that distributes content through a network of globally distributed edge locations. It reduces latency and origin load by caching data, media, and API endpoints closer to end users, ensuring consistent and efficient content delivery.

Follow the instructions on this page to stream CloudFront logs into Hydrolix.

Create AWS Kinesis stream

Hydrolix for AWS

Select CloudFront as a data source through the Hydrolix web console. Hydrolix automatically provisions an Amazon Kinesis data stream in the same AWS account.

Other Hydrolix deployments

If you are not running Hydrolix for AWS, you will need to use the instructions in Create a stream using the AWS Management Console to create a Kinesis stream.

Send CloudFront logs to Hydrolix

To send CloudFront real-time logs to the Hydrolix service, follow the instructions in the Amazon CloudFront documentation and select the Kinesis stream as the endpoint. Hydrolix for AWS displays the stream name in the web console on the data source detail page using the format:

hdx-kinesis-{random-8-character-string}

Additional Considerations

Cross-region data transfer costs

If CloudFront, the Kinesis stream, or Hydrolix cluster run in different regions, you may incur additional data transfer costs. All data streaming service costs appear on your AWS bill and aren't included in your Hydrolix subscription.

Confirm which AWS region the Hydrolix cluster is running in on the Product Info page of the Hydrolix web console.

Use the AWS pricing calculator and the Amazon Kinesis pricing to estimate costs.

Deactivating

You can deprovision the Kinesis service provisioned by Hydrolix by selecting de-activate in the Hydrolix web console.
